A Gantt chart is a type of horizontal bar chart that shows the timing relationships between the various stages that make up a project.

This graph, which is named after Henry Gantt, American industrial engineer, who developed this technique during the early '900.

Show the different stages that make up the project as lines starting from the date on which the diagram must be initiated and ending on the date to be finalized.

Once completed, the Gantt chart shows the sequence of the different activities in sequence and shows what can be done simultaneously in the same period. To create a Gantt chart should list the steps required to complete a project and estimate the time needed to complete them. The different steps will be listed along the vertical axis of the diagram and dates along the horizontal.

For every step you locate a horizontal line that combines the scheduled start date with that of its completion. Some steps can be performed simultaneously and in parallel one can be longer than the other, this can be indicated with a dotted line until the date of completion.Completed the diagram, it is able to have the graphical representation of minimum total time necessary for the project, the exact sequence of the phases, and which of these can be carried out simultaneously.A useful tool for programming is the Gantt chart. The Gantt Chart allows you to:

· Define the planning of a project by entering the actions and their durations.· Set sequential relations between actions, so as to control the effects of changing the duration of the activity start and end dates of other activities and the end date of the project.· Assign personnel and other resources to actions.· Check the progress of the work by comparing the scheduled dates with actual dates of start and end, and by controlling the percentage of completion of each activity
